Up and Running

After a summer spent frolicking in the fields Whiskey Chaser opened his season with a run-out in the snappily named ‘Follow At attheraces On Twitter Handicap Chase’ at Hexham on the 7th of December.

Due to festive commitments I was unable to travel up to Hexham, but I did watch the race via a bookmakies live streaming service. To be honest I wasn’t expecting much from his first race. In past years, he has needed a run just to get back into the swing of things. The ground at Hexham on the day was heavy and although Whiskey Chaser has won on testing ground, the conditions where far from ideal for the first race of the season.

The race started and our lad was giving it a good go. Tracking the leaders for a while before weakening and eventually pulling up before the last jump. Only four of the starting ten horse managed to finish. Four horses pulled up and two unseated their riders. The race was won by MUNSAAB (IRE), trained by James Moffatt and ridden by Henry Brooke.

The yard reported that Whiskey Chaser came out of the race with no issues and the team will no doubt be looking for another race soon. Judging by his past performances the second and third races of a season are typically when our boy starts to shine – lets hope we don’t have to wait too long the next run.
