Second Chances

Whiskey Chaser ran his fourth race of the season at Uttoxeter on 11th February 2017. The race was over three miles with nine runners competing for the £6,400 prize purse.

I didn’t make the trip to Uttoxeter, thankfully the race was screened live on RacingUK which spared me from watching the tiny live stream via the Betfair app.

Jockey Brian Hughes was partnered with Whiskey Chaser for the race at Uttoxeter, after a disappointing run at Bangor in his last race the team expected Frodo to do better this time out. Support in the betting ring was split between Whiskey Chaser and the David Noonan trained Cailleach Annie, both horses went off at 7/2.

The going was official Heavy and as the race started I could see the ground cutting up quite badly. Within a minute of the race starting two horses began to fall away from the leading pack which contained Whiskey Chaser, Lunar Flow and Son Of The King. At the halfway stage of the race Whiskey Chaser appeared to be going well and jumping soundly. However, Captain Flash and Winged Crusader had already counted themselves out of the contest.

Whiskey Chaser, Lunar Flow and Son Of The King where left to battle for the places for the remainder of the race. With two fences left to jump Whiskey Chaser looked like he might have to settle for third place. But Brian Hughes was able to rally him and Frodo bravely plugged on to finish second. Not bad considering the awful ground. No one could argue that the Jamie Snowden trained horse Lunar Flow didn’t deserve the victory.

It is likely that Whiskey Chaser will have another run or maybe two before heading off on his summer holidays, lets hope we get a second chance to finish first.
