Old Gold Racing has unveiled its latest horse for members, and he comes with both talent and top connections. Jamada, a powerful and well-related five-year-old gelding, offers racing fans the chance to be involved with Grand National-winning jockey and ITV Racing presenter, Mick Fitzgerald.
Jamada is now in the care of Olly Murphy, one of the most successful trainers in the current jumps scene. The horse was bought at the Tattersalls Cheltenham April Sale by Olly’s father, respected bloodstock agent Aiden Murphy.
Winner in Ireland and Built for More
Already a winner of a National Hunt Flat Race, Jamada got off the mark in style on his latest outing at Naas. Travelling smoothly through the race, he pulled clear with the runner-up in the closing stages before showing grit and a serious engine to get his head in front. That victory came against a well-regarded rival, suggesting there’s more to come once he tackles obstacles.
Jamada has the look of a horse made for novice hurdling and chasing. Both Olly and Mick have been quick to praise his attitude and physical presence, hinting at an exciting season ahead.
About the Trainer – Olly Murphy
Olly Murphy’s rise through the training ranks has been quick and impressive. Having ridden as an amateur until 2014, he then moved to Ireland to work as Assistant Trainer to Gordon Elliott for four seasons – a spell that included the Gold Cup win of Don Cossack.
Taking out his own licence for the 2017–18 season, Olly wasted no time in making his mark. Since then, he has sent out over 740 UK winners, including ten Graded race victories and four Listed successes. Always looking to raise the quality of his string, his operation is going from strength to strength, with the most recent campaign being his best yet – 141 winners in a single season.
A Strong Family Line
Jamada is by Affinisea, a stallion very much in demand, having covered an astonishing 382 mares in 2022. His stock has been making a big impression, with top jumpers like Only By Night and Sixmilebridge, and even Al Wasl Storm – a Flat winner who ran in the 2025 Epsom Derby.
On the dam’s side, Sounds Of Thunder was a talented and consistent performer herself, winning five times under rules – both on the Flat and over hurdles – and placing in the first three on 15 occasions. Jamada is her first runner, giving her an early 100% record for winners to runners. This branch of the family includes Group 1-winning mare Dancing Maid and prolific scorer Desert Island Disc.
His damsire, Tobougg, adds another layer of quality, being responsible for Group 1 winners such as Lumiere, plus smart performers like Apollo One and C’Est Magique.
Connections Full of Confidence
Olly Murphy made no secret of his enthusiasm after securing Jamada. “We loved the physical and really liked his performance as well… we thought he’s a horse that could hopefully win plenty of races in England,” he said. “He’s been very straightforward and summered really well.”
Mick Fitzgerald was equally impressed: “He’s a lovely type, with real potential – the kind of potential you dream about.”
What’s Next for Jamada?
After enjoying a well-earned summer break, Jamada has returned looking in top shape. The plan now is to prepare him for a season of novice hurdling, with hopes he can build on his Irish success and develop into a serious performer in the UK.
