Old Gold Racing Adds Two New Horses as El Nay and Mister Des Places Join the Team
Old Gold Racing has added two interesting new names to its growing list of shared ownership horses, with El Nay joining Tony Carroll and Mister Des Places heading to the yard of Olly Murphy.
Both are priced at £64 per share, but they offer quite different prospects for potential owners. El Nay is a Flat horse who looks close to winning his first race, while Mister Des Places arrives from France with winning form over hurdles already on his record.
For anyone looking at affordable racehorse ownership, there is plenty to like about both.
El Nay Joins Tony Carroll
El Nay is a three-year-old gelding who has joined Tony Carroll after being bought for £50,000 at the Tattersalls July Sale.
He brings a strong pedigree with him. El Nay is from the first crop of Palace Pier, the five-time Group 1 winning miler, while his dam Anghaam is by Frankel.
More importantly for potential owners, there is already plenty of form to look at.
El Nay has raced six times and has yet to finish outside the first three. He has finished runner-up three times and third twice, earning £14,729 without yet managing to get his head in front.
That first victory certainly does not look far away.
One of his better performances came at Leicester, where he attempted to make all the running and was only caught close home, losing by a short head. His most recent run at Chester can perhaps be forgiven after he slipped around the home bend at a key point in the race.
He will now race for Tony Carroll, who has built a particularly strong record with horses bought from other yards.
Old Gold is offering 2,750 shares at £64 each, with the syndicate due to run until 30 September 2027. At the time of writing, El Nay is still marked as coming soon, although potential owners can reserve a share.
For someone who prefers Flat racing and wants a horse who could be running fairly regularly, El Nay is an interesting option.
Mister Des Places Brings Winning Form from France
The second new arrival is very different.
Mister Des Places is a four-year-old gelding by Alanadi who has been racing in France and will now join Olly Murphy.
Unlike El Nay, he already knows how to win.
Mister Des Places won over hurdles at Lyon-Parilly before recording another victory at Moulins.
That French experience could prove useful now that he is moving into British National Hunt racing.
He is still only four, so Olly Murphy has time to work with him and find out where his future lies. He has already raced over both hurdles and fences in France, although his best results so far have come over hurdles.
Old Gold describes him as a tough and experienced young horse with plenty of racing already behind him.
Shares in Mister Des Places are also £64, with the horse divided into 2,250 shares. His syndicate runs until 31 August 2027 and, unlike El Nay, shares are already available to buy.

Old Gold Racing suits fans who want a clear view of ownership costs, regular contact, and a social racing experience, without ongoing monthly bills.
Two Very Different Ownership Options
The fact that both shares cost £64 makes for an interesting choice.
El Nay offers the chance to follow a lightly raced Flat horse who has been knocking on the door and could finally get his first win soon.
Mister Des Places already has winning form and should appeal more to National Hunt fans, particularly those interested in seeing how a young French recruit gets on after moving to one of Britain’s leading jumps yards.
Neither comes with any guarantee of success, of course. That is part of racehorse ownership.
But for £64, both offer racing fans another affordable way of becoming involved with a horse rather than simply watching from the stands.
And with one heading into the care of Tony Carroll and the other joining Olly Murphy, they are two new Old Gold Racing additions well worth keeping an eye on over the coming months.
