Neck And Neck In Newcastle

Whiskey Chaser headed to Newcastle for his fifth race of the season. On paper it didn’t look much of a contest, with just three runners declared for the 2m 7f race. It was felt the main threat would come from the in-from Plus Jamais but our team had every confidence in Whiskey Chaser and felt he would put up a good fight against the Iain Jardine trained ten-year-old.

Plus Jamais, Mossies Well and Whiskey Chaser began the race at a decent pace and all three horses cleared the first two fences together. At the third, Mossie Well and jockey Ryan Nichol took a nasty tumble leaving Plus Jamais and Whiskey Chaser in a two horse race.

The prospect of a two horse race over the remaining seventeen fences didn’t sound like it would make for the most exciting race ever but all credit to Will Kennedy and Brian Hughes who served up a thriller in Newcastle.

Five out from home and both horses where neck and neck as they jumped the remaining fences simultaneously. In the end Plus Jamais was able to hold off the challenge from Will and Whiskey. I can honestly say it was the more exciting race Whiskey Chaser has been involved in to date. It was a shame not to win but the effort shown by Will & Whiskey couldn’t be faulted.
