I Know What You Did Last Summer
If you’ve never owned a horse before it can come as quite a shock to find out just how much leisure time they get. Our horse Frodo (Whiskey Chaser) seems to enjoy more holidays than Judith Chalmers. I never thought I’d be jealous of a horse’s holiday entitlements! It does make you wonder where the phrase ‘Work Horse’ originated? Surely it should be ‘Holiday Horse’?
This year Frodo packed his bags early for his holidays. His summer was spent frolicking in the fields and munching on the long grass. Judging by the videos posted online by our syndicate manager Frodo was having a whale of a time on his jollies. Just watch him rolling around on the floor! And like many a holidaymaker he’s coming home with a few pounds more around the waist than when he left.
Frodo is now back in the familiar territory of his Bankhouse stable and the news from the yard is the summer break has done him the world of good. Mike, our syndicate manager updated us on his progress since coming back in, reporting: ‘He was ridden on the gallop and has done brilliantly. His lass is taking fantastic care of him and the team consider him a bit ahead of the plan at the moment’.
The jump season is just around the corner so it’s pleasing to hear that the lad is doing well. Hopefully this year the winter will be milder and Frodo can build on last years work. I plan to get over to the yard very soon and see him in the flesh.
Although the horses got a good break this summer the team at Deva Racing seem busier than ever with their flat horses and the acquisition of two new syndicate horses which are to be trained by Donald McCain. They are I Need Gold and Theatrical Style, with the latter being a 4yo ex Irish pointer who Donald rates highly. Shares in Theatrical Style are still available (DevaRacing.com) and this horse is tipped to do well. After a recent run, the Irish website ptp.ie commented on his race saying “Theatrical Style ran a cracker and stepped up from his debut and will be winning before long”. Shares in I Need Gold were snapped up quickly and he is currently targeted at a bumper run in the Autumn. I must admit I was very tempted myself by I Need Gold, and I hope the new partnership enjoy lots of success with him.
