Whiskey Chaser was partnered with jockey Will Kennedy for his 13th career race in the South Notts Hussars Handicap Chase on March 11th at Leicester racecourse.

Once again I couldn’t get to the course to support ‘Frodo’ but I did manage to watch the race live on Betfair. I don’t know where I’d be without their streaming service. I logged into Betfair 10 minutes before the race and was pleased see Whiskey Chaser was available to back on at 4/1. Not too bad when you consider this was a three horse race. ‘Some Finish’ was the 8/11 favourite followed by Basford Ben at 3/1. I placed my bet and waited for the race to start.

In theory the Leicester course should suit our lad but the ground on the day was described as ‘horrendous’ and on his previous two outing at Leicester Whiskey had failed to make an impression. Although Whiskey Chaser was narrowly beaten in his previous race at Musselburgh he’d put up a good fight and I was hoping he would go well again.

The race started and the three runners remained tightly grouped for the first circuit. Our horse was jumping well and Will Kennedy had him in a good rhythm as they entered the second circuit. It was at this point when Will and Whiskey kicked on and started to open a lead on Some Finish and Basford Ben, the ground looked like it was taking its toll on those two. Whiskey on the other hand was having no issues and continued to put more distance between him and the second placed horse Basford Ben.

It was obvious from three fences out that we would win, barring a fall – thankfully that didn’t happen and Whiskey Chaser claimed his second career win! and I collected a tidy sum from my pre-race bet.
